The Amherst Opera House Company was formed in June of 1902 when 10 businessmen gathered with the mission of creating a gathering/entertainment venue for the Village of Amherst. The former Temple of Honor that had been used as a gathering place burned in 1899. We are glad they recognized the need and took action. Construction on the current Amherst Opera House began on Oct. 1, 1902 and the building was completed and ready for a gala New Years Eve Ball on Dec. 31, 1902. The rest as they say, is history. The new Amherst Opera House Company Guild is hosting a picnic on the north lawn of the Amherst Opera House to celebrate the 122nd year anniversary. This is a free event for all. Come and help us celebrate.
